For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.

Let Them Live Rally

The Georgia State Capitol
January 14, 2008

Thank you for making our Let Them Live Rally an Important Beginning for our efforts to see the Human Life Amendment become part of Georgia's Constitution!
We urge you to support both HR536 and HB1.
Here is a slide show and Jenny's recap of the rally:

Monday dawned cold and bright. Our family along with others were at the Capitol at 6:30am in order to get things set up. The media was already gathering around Capitol Square since it was the opening day of the session, and the Speaker and Governor were in the midst of a legislative battle.

Capitol Security, GBA, and the Atlanta police were wonderful to work with. They seemed rather excited about my rally, and curious to see the results of my work over the past months.

Things actually started a bit late, and I hustled around doing interviews, and answering questions for the volunteer staff. When all the speakers sat down, Pat Mahoney took his place at the podium, and the media cameras were lined up taking in the scene. It was a little hard to believe that the moment had arrived.

The day was very significant and the speakers felt it to be so. The platform united Democrat, Republican, Black and White in one cause, the fight for life. Thus far, I have been schooled by almost everyone on the need to compromise and make deals and that abortion will probably never be outlawed. But Monday demonstrated that no compromise is needed. Strong resolute leadership in the one cause that makes sense is precisely what Georgia needs. Every legislator, every elected official, every appointed official has the responsibility to uphold the inalienable right to life.

Abortion is a gruesome act of aggression against our most vulnerable and helpless, that was sold to America as a means to exterminate our black people. We are not naturally a barbaric people, but our ignorance and apathy have made us so. It continues to amaze me how many people are not aware that Georgia has the oldest gestational age in the country for on demand abortion, 26 weeks, 6 days. That's almost 7 months pregnant! And we abort thousands of children every month in Atlanta.

This past week I have spent visiting the offices of legislators and handing each one petitions from their constituents for HB 1, an excellent bill to outlaw abortion in Georgia. You may wonder why another pro-life bill. Isn't the Human Life Amendment enough? One thing I've learned about the legislative process is that it is a place ripe with deal making. Last year's ultrasound bill was utterly stripped of significance in the deal making process. What was passed by the House and Senate was a mere shadow of the original. Planned Parenthood issued a statement concerning the bill that they recognized it would not in any way inhibit a woman's ability to get an abortion.

My desire, my aim, my drive is to end abortion in Georgia this year. Unfortunately, with the deal making process, the bill you begin with is not the bill you end with necessarily. I certainly did not get involved with this campaign to be a deal maker. It makes sense to pass two aggressive pieces of pro-life legislation where each attempts a different strategy to get the job done. We only get one legislative season a year. We must make the most of our time.

On Monday, Speaker Glenn Richardson focused his time on re-passing 12 pieces of legislation through the House that the Governor had vetoed last year. When the Speaker puts his mind to something, clearly he can act swiftly and aggressively.

You are the necessary part of ending abortion this year. You must contact your legislator, the Speaker and the Governor every week and urge immediate action in passing HB 1 and HR 536. If we are going to end the slaughter of thousands of innocent children every month, it is going to take all of us pulling together decisively.

I think what is most telling about our elected civil governement is that although we have a pro-life majority in the House & Senate, a pro-life Lt. Governor, Governor and Secretary of State, it is requiring immense effort to pass legislation that will stop the bloodshed. We must stop accepting the lip service our politicians give us when they want our vote for their election. Let them know you are watching with expectation.

For Life & For Liberty,
Jenny
