For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.

Psalm 139:13-16

Plan Your Trip to the Capitol

Helpful Pointers to Prepare for Your Day at the Capitol

Plan your day at the Capitol carefully, so you can maximize your time there, and also maximize the impression your visit will make on your elected officials.

Directions: Take 75/85 South to MJK JR. Dr. turn right on MLK, Jr.Dr. Immediately turn right on Jesse Hill in order to park, or continue down MLK for other parking areas. You will see the Capitol on the left.

Parking: Parking is available on Jesse Hill Jr. Dr, and also by the World of Coke on MLK Jr. Dr.

Taking Marta: Exit at Ga. State Station. Take Piedmont Ave. turn right on MLK Jr. Dr. and then left on Washington St. The Rally is at the front entrance to the Capitol on Washington St.

Food: Please bring sack lunches and enjoy them in the Plaza. I recommend bringing water bottles, and thermoses with coffee or hot chocolate. You can never tell what the weather will be in Georgia, so dress in layers that are easily removed. Whenever I go to the Capitol with my little troop of 6, I bring the beach cart to hold jackets, lunches, water bottles and diaper bag. It makes things a lot easier. A double stroller works well, too! If it looks like rain, be sure to bring ponchos.

Bathroom: Bathrooms are located in the Capitol. You will need a photo ID to enter the Capitol. If you have a stroller, be sure to use the handicap entrance on the Mitchell St. side of the Capitol. The bathrooms are right down the hall from the handicap entrance.

Taking Tours: Tours of the Capitol are available at 9:30am,10:30am, 1pm, and 2pm. You can call the Director of Capitol Education to confirm these tour hours: 404-463-7720 and to schedule your tour. I recommend calling ahead.

Visit your Senator and Representative: For school groups, I recommend just visiting the office of Speaker of the House, Glenn Richardson. Go to www.congress.org to confirm your Senator and Representative. You can click on their name to pull up their information including their office number at the Capitol. Call ahead and see if you cannmeet with your legislators personally about HB1. Try to bring something you can leave in his or her office like a letter, a birthday cake with HB1 on it, or some other memorable gesture to emphasize your desire for this Pro-Life measure to pass the House and Senate.

Visit Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson: Mr. Richardson assigns bills to committee and can reassign a bill in order to insure that it gets to the House Floor for a vote. We have been told directly by the Speaker that he does not want this measure to come before the full House for a vote this year. It is imperative that he know you want HB1 to get to the House Floor, and without changes. You can leave a letter for him at his office.

Become a Letter Lobbyist!: Get involved in our campaign to contact every elected legislator and executive who will affect the passage of HB1. Visit our Letter Lobbyist page and see how you can help!
